When strength and knowledge come to blows, which side will rise from the ashes? A new threat has come to Earth and The Man of Steel must stop it's reign of destruction. The Panel Biter's DC Cinematic Universe proudly presents the next entree into Phase Two, "Superman: Invasion".
The Justice League's battle against Starro the Conqueror rose a lot of questions, questions Superman has taken it upon himself to answer. Since the last invasion, Superman has made an effort to help people around the world, while in The States he and his fellow heroes have received backlash from people like talk show host, G. Gordon Godfrey. Meanwhile, a StarLabs scientist named Milton Fine is on the brink of extraterrestrial contact. However, the message wasn't a greeting, but a command. Brainiac, a collector from deep space has become aware of Superman and his Justice League, and has decided to send his future enemies a warning by using Milton Fine as his puppet. Superman-with help from his temporarily roommate, The Martian Manhunter-must stop Brainiac's plans before Godfrey's complaints become the least of their worries.
This time around we'd see Superman juggling a lot of roles: international hero, spokesman for the JL, protector of Metropolis, and mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent. His relationship with Lois Lane has skyrocketed at this point, even admitting to Jimmy Olson he's already considering marriage. While with Lois, Superman would make reference to the death of Jason Todd when he picks up an issue of the Gotham Giselle with the front page reporting on "The Death of Robin". John Henry Irons would appear in this film as a civilian who helps Superman save a bus load of children when the breaking gear is broken. Irons would be the person Superman can vent to about the newfound responsibilities he has, with Irons agreeing as he's a single parent working a construction job just to get by. Noticing his past in engineering, Superman sets Irons up with a job at StarLabs with Professor Emil Hamilton. As mentioned, The Martian Manhunter would be a supporting character in this film, adapting to modern Earth society in the human disguise of John Jones. At The Fortress of Solitude, we learn The League has received teleportation technology from a distant scientist named Adam Strange. We'd also slowly see MM's addiction to Oreos begin. A minor enemy in this film would be a group called Intergang. According to Commissioner Maggie Sawyer, Intergang is a criminal organization devoted to selling and acquiring alien technology. Brainiac would appear as a humanoid/machine onlooker within the confides of his skull-shaped ship, far from our galaxy. Brainiac's lair would contain shrunken cities of various planets within jars, including the Kryptonian city of Kandor. After studying Earth from afar, Brainiac sights the emotions of the human race as their greatest flaw. By possessing Professor Milton Fine's brain (via electrons) Brainiac would make Milton shave his head, paint himself bright green, and dress dramatically in order to mock both Superman and Martian Manhunter. As Brainiac, Milton would develop a psychic control of technology and use this power to pester Superman and The Martian Manhunter. Through Milton's body, Brainiac would taunt Superman by mentioning how easy it was to steal the city of Kandor from a planet already in the state of destruction. Even going so far as to say he saved the last of Superman's people. He'd also reference the eradication of the Martians. By fooling the members of Intergang into helping him, Milton would use alien technology to lift Lexcorp-the tallest building in Metropolis-off the planet to have a sample of the city he desires to abduct. Mercy Graves is also the new CEO of Lexcorp because Lex Luthor is in prison. Milton almost defeats Superman by using red sun lamps to drain Superman's powers, but an assist from John Henry Irons crushes the lamps. After MM is able to snap Milton out of his trance and Superman successfully carries the entire Lexcorp Tower safely back to Metropolis, Maxwell Lord uses Superman's victory to sway the American public off of Godfrey's side. By the way, Godfrey would be played by Conan O'Brian. After the end credits, Vincent Edge-owner of The Galaxy News Network-approves a story on Superman's victory. He then receives a phone call confirming Intergang has the red sun lamps and that they'd be happy to sell them to the caller, the caller who turns out to be Lex Luthor in a red phone booth.
After earning the love of both Metropolis and the people of Earth, Superman's struggle would come from the overwhelming attention he's gotten. This movie would allow Superman to not only break down barriers, but rekindle his relationships with his friends in Metropolis. While Brainiac has been thwarted this time, Superman and his allies await his true arrival. And so, the PBDC treks on! Thanks for reading!
After returning to the adventures of Superman, it's time to see another alien walk among mankind. The origins of "The Martian Manhunter" will soon be revealed!
