Hunter Facts

Are you a fan of The Huntress? Well, we got One Dozen Huntress Facts coming at you!
1. The very first Huntress was Paula Brooks in 1947, she also used the alias Tigress and was a reoccurring villain for The Justice Society of America. She married fellow villain Sportmaster. In the "Young Justice" TV show, her name is Paula Nguyen and she and Sportmaster are divorced, she is paralyzed from the waist down, and a single mother of two. Her daughters are Artemis-a sidekick of Green Arrow-and Jade-the villain for hire known as Cheshire.

2. Paula once stole Plymouth Rock.

3. The second Huntress-created in 1977-was Helena Wayne, the daughter of Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle on Earth 2. Earth 2 was another version of the DCU that had continued after the Golden Age of comics. In her most recent incarnation it was revealed she trained as Robin under her father for a few years until both he and Catwoman, along with Superman and Wonder Woman, were either killed or possessed by Darksied.

4. Helena Wayne's Huntress costume was inspired by Black Cat. Not the Marvel Comic's character, but instead the Harvey Comics character created in 1941. Helena also worked at a law firm with Dick Grayson of Earth 2 before becoming a superhero.

5. Helena was actually born into the main DCU when Selina Kyle found herself pregnant. It was left a mystery as to who the father was for a while, but it was eventually revealed the father was Slam Bradley Jr., a member of the GCPD. Selina gave her child up for adoption and requested Zatanna wipe her memory of the baby, but Zatanna refused.

6. The third and current Huntress is Helena Bertinelli created in 1989. She is the daughter of a mob-related couple and when she was six she was raped by a rival Mafia Don to psychologically torture her father. Her father sent her to the best martial arts schools in the country and gave her a bodyguard named Sal. In 2000 her origin was revised, this time she witnessed the rival Mafia Don kill her parents when she was eight years old. Since then she had waged a one woman war on crime.

7. Batman had originally refused to work with Helena Bertinelli at first, she had killed several criminals and was accused of killing many more, which brought the two to conflict. Helena went on to join The Birds of Prey alongside Oracle and Black Canary. Batman also let her into his inner circle of sidekicks.

8. During the story "No Man's Land", Batman vanishes, Gotham is struck by an earthquake, and Gotham's criminals run rampant. To bring order to the city, Helena dons a Batgirl costume for a short time. She discards when Batman returns and criticizes her.

9. Helena's love interests include Nightwing, Arsenal, The Question and Catman. In James Robinson's "Cry For Justice" series, Green Arrow mentioned that Hal Jordan/Green Lantern had a drunken threesome with Huntress and her teammate Lady Blackhawk.

10. In 2014, Tim Seeley and Tom King created a new version of Helena Bertinelli in "Grayson", a series following Dick Grayson as a secret agent of the organization Spyral after faking his death. This time Helena is dark-skinned and the heir to the Sicilian Mob, and her parents were murdered by a rival Mafia organization. She became a high-ranking member of Spyral and after Grayson destroyed the organization she took a page from his book and became a costumed vigilante hellbent on hunting down the people who killed her parents.

11. In the universe of "Injustice: Gods Among Us" Huntress was murdered by Wonder Woman. Her death inspired Kate Kane/Batwoman into helping fight against Superman's Regime.

12. In the 2002 short-lived TV series "Birds of Prey", Ashley Scott played Helena Kyle the daughter of Selina Kyle who learned her father was Batman the day her mother was assassinated. In this universe both she and Selina are Metahumans with cat-like abilities like enhanced strength, agility, night vision, a healing factor, and a sixth sense for danger. She was taught martial arts under Barbara Gordon and became Huntress.
