Batman 20 Years Later

So, I stole this idea from The Elseworld's Exchange. Full disclosure. And some of my ideas are like theirs, and I admit to that too. However, I still like the idea of designing a possible future for the DC Universe. And since all begins with The Dark Knight, this is my head canon for his future. This is Batman...20 Years Later.

Damian Wayne/Batman

Damian Wayne, now in his early thirties, has adopted his birthright as Batman. At first, he was very violent, very malicious, and unforgiving. However, in the first few years he discovered his actions made it harder for the people of Gotham to trust him. It got to the point where civilians died because they felt they couldn't depend on Damian to save them. At his lowest moment, Damian allowed Bruce to guide him and to become a better Batman. He gets advice from Bruce occasionally now, but for assistance he relies on Alfred Pennyworth's daughter Julia Pennyworth. Damian's love interest is Maya Ducard/Nobody. She acts as an international agent, but occasionally crosses paths with Damian. Damian also battles his mother Talia al Ghul, new leader of The League of Assassins, who urges him to abandon his mission.

Bruce Wayne

Bruce Wayne is about sixty-five years old, and while he'd prefer to stay Gotham's Dark Knight he understands his body isn't what it used to be. He also helps Damian control his anger and has taken a more Oracle like role, providing tech support for the Bat-Family. Bruce has purchased The Monarch Theater and has transformed it from a movie theater to a theatrical arts studio. And has since renamed it "The Pennyworth Theatre of Fine Arts" in honor of his late butler who loved plays. He is often accompanied by his guard dog Ace, and has a budding romance with Selina Kyle, the retired Catwoman.

The Robins

As a friend to the superhero community and the most human of the Batman Family, Richard Grayson is President of The United States of America. He has married Shawn Tsang, whom he met in Bludhaven and has had two children, Thomas and Martha. Also hanging up the mask and cape is Tim Drake who now runs Wayne Industries. Tim has also hired the likes of Lucas Fox, Harper Row, and Duke Thomas to work at Wayne Industries as well. Tim and Stephanie Brown are married and have a daughter named Renee Drake, named after Officer Renee Montoya after her death on the job. Jason Todd is the new head of Arkham Asylum and remains an intimidating warden, as well as a source of rehabilitation for the inmates of the Asylum. Working with him is his wife, Doctor Harleen Quinzel, head psychiatrist of Arkham.

The Batwomen

Barbara Gordon's spinal injury has resurfaced and she is bound to a wheelchair once more, but thanks to the technologies of Wayne Industries she is able to wear a special walking apparatus that allows her to take active duty as the Commissioner of The Gotham City Police Department. Her role as Commissioner can be both a gift and curse when working with Damian. Cassandra Cain has taken the identity of Huntress after Helena Burtinelli retired. As Huntress, Cassie acts as an international agent for Batman, she hunts down evil organizations, stops Gotham villains who have left the country, and is basically a one-woman-army. Stephanie Brown is currently Batwoman in Gotham, however she takes a more ground-level approach than Damian. While Damian is more like traditional Batman, Stephanie is more like 60's Batman. She attends social gatherings, has a voice on Gotham's Board of Directors, and operates during the daytime. She still manages to be a good mother to her daughter Renee, and is training her as Robin, and Tim provides their tech. Kate Kane has retired as Batwoman and has become a full-time General like her father was. She is the connection between Batman and President Grayson, and has taken Amanda Waller's Suicide Squad and repaired it into a supervillian rehabilitation unit.

The Villains

Black Mask, The Penguin, and the newest Ventriloquist remain as the crime bosses of Gotham City. Clayface has rejected his former life as a villain and has returned to acting, and with his ability to shapeshift he makes becomes the next Dwayne Johnson of Hollywood. Metaphorically. Mr. Freeze, The Mad Hatter, and The Riddler are still criminals and have implemented new technology into their arsenals. However, Arkham Asylum CEO Jason Todd has incorporated the cooperation of Scarecrow, Man-Bat, Hugo Strange, and Two-Face in his quest to help Gotham's mentally unstable recover. Killer Croc also works at Arkham and has become a vegetarian. Poison Ivy has become the new Swamp Thing and is neither good or evil, simply an avatar of nature. The Joker, in Bruce's last day as Batman, died when he nearly killed Bruce, but the citizens of Gotham attacked The Joker. Out of their love for Batman and their overcoming of fear of The Joker, citizens of Gotham killed the Clown Prince of Crime. Inexplicably though, some of those citizens have gone mad and formed a gang called The Jokerz, and now worship him. Their quest is to steal The Joker's body and continue his work. Batman theorizes The Joker's body let loose an airborne Joker Venom that drove the citizens of Gotham crazy like him.
