Kung Fu Facts

Are you a fan of The Master of Kung Fu!? We got One Dozen Shang-Chi Facts! Hiya!
1. Shang-Chi's name translates to "Rising of The Spirit".

2. Shang-Chi was created in 1973, making him Marvel's second Chinese-American superhero. Before him came Jimmy Woo in 1956.

3. Shang-Chi was modeled after martial artist/actor Bruce Lee.

4. Marvel Comics originally intended on acquiring the rights to create a comic based off the television show "Kung Fu", but could not. They did the comic rights to the character Fu Manchu, a pulp villain created by novelist Sax Rohmer. Fu Manchu was made into Shang-Chi's archenemy and father, but when Marvel lost the rights to the character of Fu Manchu, the name became an alias and the character's name was changed to Zheng Zu. Fu Manchu's archenemy Sir Denis Nayland Smith has also appeared in Shang-Chi's stories.

5. Shang-Chi was one of the reoccurring characters in Marvel's 1970's comic book "The Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu", which also featured The Daughters of The Dragon, White Tiger, Iron Fist, and The Sons of The Tiger. The title made a brief resurrection in 2014 and starred Shang-Chi.

6. Shang-Chi has been a member of The Avengers, Steve Roger's Secret Avengers, MI-6, and The Heroes For Hire.

7. Shang-Chi is often regarded as the greatest martial artist on Earth, making him a apt sparring partner for the likes of Iron Fist and Captain America. Though he is a master of traditional weapons like swords, nunchucks, and staffs, he prefers to fight unarmed. Shang-Chi is also able to dodge gunfire and deflect projectile weapons with a swift hand strike. Shang-Chi has battled and defeated many superhuman foes, and even if he has not defeated them he chooses never to forfeit. Once, beaten to exhaustion by a superpowered foe, his enemy asked "Why do you still stand", and Shang-Chi replied "Does a tree fall from a slight breeze".

8. After Spider-Man temporarily lost his Spider-Sense, Shang-Chi helped him develop a unique martial art suited to Spidey's powers.

9. Leading up to "Secret Wars" in 2015, Shang-Chi was exposed to cosmic radiation and gained the ability to create an infinite amount of duplicates of himself.

10. In the "House of M" universe, Zu Zheng died before Shang-Chi could learn he was evil. So, Shang-Chi leads The Dragons, a criminal organization alongside Colleen Wing, Mantis, and Swordsman to name a few. In the "Ultimate Universe" Shang-Chi recruited Danny Rand, Spider-Man, Black Cat, Moon Knight, and Elektra to spark a gang war between The Kingpin and Hammerhead. He and Daredevil later busted The Kingpin.

11. Shang-Chi left The Heroes For Hire because of his teammate Humbug had joined an evil alien race of insects called The Hive. The Hive forced Humbug to torture Colleen Wing and Tarantula. Shang-Chi, seeing Humbug regretted his actions, mercy killed him and left The Heroes For Hire ashamed of himself.

12. During his early retirement, Shang-Chi lived in a remote village in Yang-Tin, and became a fisherman.
