Remember that one time Hellcat defeated Thanos?
Spidey Super-Stories was an anthology series from the 1970's in which Spider-Man got involved in stories varying from harmless adventures to bizarre matchups. Like when Thanos fought The Cat. Thanos you might have heard of, but The Cat? Typical street vigilante with great reflexes and a hell of an ass. Hence "Hellcat", the other vigilante name she's used when Marvel didn't care about printing the word "Hell". The original Hellcat went on to become the superpowered Avenger and uncomfortably revealing heroine known as Tigra. The second Hellcat was the woman above-Patsy Walker. Patsy used to be a type of slice-of-life character Marvel published similar to Archie, if she sounds familiar it's because she appeared in the "Jessica Jones" Netflix series. Patsy remains Hellcat to this day, and even got a book last year.
In issue #39, Thanos is searching New York City for his lost Cosmic Cube. Fun Fact: outside of the films The Cosmic Cube is it's own powerful, world-altering object and not an Infinity Stone. If Thanos can't have his pretty rocks, he'll take a night light. In his search he ends up fighting with The Cat inside his Thanoscopter. Yes, Thanos had a helicopter. And this isn't some shot-in-the-pan kind of vehicle. It's been in video games, it was in a 2015 comic book, people remember this like they remember the Spider-Buggy. Thanos apparently couldn't fly so he had a personal helicopter like he was a Batman 1966 villain. This copter had missiles and lasers, but was silly none the less. That's excluding the "THANOS" branding on the tail of the craft.
Anyway Thanos and Cat fight it out, but then some skater boy found the cube and used it to summon himself ice cream. Meanwhile, Peter Parker and MJ Wattson are discussing The Cat and, what a coincidence, they run into the skater, The Cat, and Thanos. Thanos is tussling with the kid and finally gets the cube and uses it to mess with Spider-Man and The Cat. Thanos ends up harming himself with the cube and losing it to The Cat. Thanos is defeated and arrested by the local authorities. ARRESTED. BY COPS. In "Infinity Gauntlet" and "Infinity War" it took The Avengers, The Guardians of The Galaxy, The X-Men, and some other heroes to even scratch this guy. But even if you take the Gauntlet away from Thanos that's still a Hulk-level powerhouse, a Captain America-level intelligence, and a being so powerful even Death herself has to pay attention to him. But twenty years prior? Spider-Man and The Cat can defeat Thanos. Hell, if I were The Titan I'd be pretty mad too.
Thanks for reading!
