So now that you know who my picks for secret Skrulls in the MCU, I thought it would be fair of me to explain why I think some characters who people theorize are Skrulls, probably aren't. So here are some MCU characters who I think are the real deal.
First, let me remind you of a few rules I set up to discern who are and are not Skrulls.
1. A Skrull cannot be a title character.
2. Cannot be a character with major character development.
3. Cannot be a character with superpowers.
4. It has to be a character who can realistically assume a position of power or authority.
Loki
Loki is a popular choice mainly due to the character's death in "Avengers: Infinity War". First, let me be an asshole on purpose for a minute when I tell you if you hate a movie because a character you liked was killed off, you're kind of petty and childish and shouldn't be critiquing movies with an air of self-respect. If a character's death is earned, and they've had their time in the sun like Loki has, you cannot be taken seriously as a critic AND pissed off that Loki died at the same time. Thanos saying "no more tricks" means The Russo Brothers are literally telling us "yeah, we're not joking". Loki seemingly sacrificed himself in "Thor: The Dark World" sending his character in a full circle, a Skrull wouldn't do that. Loki remembers the "get help" trick with Thor and the time he turned into a snake to trick Thor when they were kids, and has actual meaningful moments with Thor in "Thor: Ragnarok", all things a Skrull wouldn't have knowledge of. Plus, both Heimdall and Odin have the ability to see through Loki's tricks. Something tells me if he were a Skrull one of them would point it out. And since "Ragnarok" and "Infinity War" happen back-to-back, the Loki who got choked out was the real Loki. Proof positive is that he didn't turn into a Skrull upon death as all Skrulls do.
The Hulk
Hulk’s grown a kinship with Black Widow in "Age of Ultron", behaves like a two-year old spoiled brat who's smashing is encouraged in "Ragnarok", and becomes too afraid and embarrassed to fight in "Infinity War" and you click-bait-clicking nimrods think he's a Skrull? If Hulk is a Skrull than I want my money back, because never has a Hulk in the extended media gotten so much character development. Ask yourself, why would a Skrull stay on Sakaar? How does that help? And how would a Skrull fight Thor? Like I said last time a Skrull can look like you, but he can't replicate your abilities like super strength. And why do we have two scenes in "Infinity War" where Bruce-all by himself with nobody around-yells and questions The Hulk for not coming out? If he is a Skrull than who is he trying to convince by talking to himself while nobody else is around!? It doesn't make sense, it makes Hulk's development meaningless, and it makes Thanos less of a threat if The Hulk he beat up wasn't even the real one.
Hawkeye
I don't know where this one came from. Yes, we don't see Hawkeye alone that often. Yes, he doesn't have powers. Yes, he was a SHIELD agent. However, Clint has a family and that's his defining trait. In the last couple of films we've seen Clint acknowledge his family's importance and his desire to get back to them. If he were a Skrull why would he bother being with a family of humans? Are his family all Skrulls and Clint is trying to hide them? Are they all Skrulls? Thing is I don't see any future movies having room for a twist like that. I will admit Hawkeye and/or his family are the most likely candidates, but outside of establishing not all Skrulls are bad and some just want to live peacefully, I don't see why Clint has to be a Skrull.
Thanks for reading.
