Miracle Facts

Are you a fan of the escape artist of two worlds!? Because we got One Dozen Mister Miracle Facts!
1. Mister Miracle's name is actually Scott Free. "Scott Free" is a term often used to express getting away with something or avoiding something. The term "Scott Free" is derived from the word "Skot" used by English which means "tax", so originally being "Scott Free" meant being free of tax or payment.

2. Scott is a member of The New Gods, an array of cosmic mythological beings created by Jack Kirby in 1971. While the concept of The New Gods first appeared in "The New Gods #1", boasting characters like Highfather and Orion, Mister Miracle first appeared in his own self-titled series the following month in 1971.

3. Before creating The New Gods, Jack Kirby created many of Marvel Comic's most popular characters like The X-Men, The Fantastic Four, and The Avengers. The latter included "The Mighty Thor" in which Kirby gained experience drawing images from science fiction and from Norse mythology. These experiences in illustration helped Kirby create The New Gods as their own corner of the DC Comics Universe with ascetics unique to their series.

4. Scott Free is actually the son of Highfather, ruler of New Genesis. In order to form a peace treaty between New Genesis and Apokolips, Highfather and Darkseid agreed to trade their sons so that neither would attack each other's worlds. Highfather raised the New God known as Orion, and Darkseid cast the child Scott Free into Granny Goodness' care.

5. Using something called The Alpha Effect-the opposite of Darseid's Omega Energy-Scott Free has managed to revive the dead and vanquish "The Asgardian God Thor". He has relinquished these powers.

6. Scott utilizes New Genesis and Apokolips technology like Mother Boxes (used to teleport and access endless information), flight discs to hover on or throw or use as shields, his Multi-Cube can create ropes, smoke, lighting effects and almost anything else he'd need, and his suit is designed with lasers, electronic blasts, hidden compartments, and his cape can cocoon him from harm.

7. Scott was trained by Granny Goodness in the Hell Pits of Apokolips. He is a master martial artist and is trained in various weapons such as firearms and swords. Due to being strung up in Granny's torture devices, Scott has also developed the ability to escape from any trap. This is done by using his gadgets to escape, using his enhanced physiology to survive traps, or using his intellect to coordinate an escape route. This has helped in both deathtraps and in escaping confrontation. He is credited as the greatest escape artist in the known universe. Scott used his escapism prowess on Earth as "Mister Miracle" the circus escape artist. This career led him to make many TV appearances and made him a celebrity.

8. Scott Free's wife is another New God named Big Barda. Regarded as one of strongest women in the universe, even by Wonder Woman, Barda is noticeably bigger and stronger than Scott. She too was trained by Granny Goodness and once led Darkseid' Female Furies. After meeting Scott and falling in love with him, the two fled to Earth to become performers at a circus with her becoming a "strong-woman".

9. Scott's best friend and mentor was Oberon, a dwarf who worked for the circus and had assisted and trained under Thaddeus Brown, the original Mister Miracle. Thad, Scott, and Oberon all worked together at the circus, but later Thad was murdered by The Steel Hand, who worked with the criminal organization Intergang. Steel Hand was an old rival of Thad and hired a sniper to kill Thad just before a performance. Following this Scott became the new Mister Miracle and avenged Thad's death. Oberon later died of lung cancer.

10. Thad and Scott both shared a young protege named Shilo Norman. Shilo was a young African-American kid who aspired to become an escape artist as well. As an adult he was the warden for a meta-human prison in Antartica called The Slab. Following the death of the New Gods, Shilo took up the mantle of Mister Miracle and became a celebrity superhero just like Scott.

11. In the Elseworld's story "Kingdom Come", Mister Miracle and Big Barda have a daughter named Avia. Scott helps Superman created The Gulag, an inescapable prison. The perfect task for Scott as he's escaped every trap in the book. In "JLA: The Nail", Darkseid's minion Desaad tortures Scott to death, but Scott manages to escape death by downloading his mind into Big Barda's Mother Box. The Mother Box later bonds with a Green Lantern Ring allowing Mister Miracle to return as a light construct. In "Superman: The Dark Side", Mister Miracle takes over for Matron-The New God of Time.

12. When Jack Kirby released his Fourth World Series of books-Mister Miracle, The New Gods, and The Forever People-the latter two books were cancelled at 11 issues, but Mister Miracle initially made it to 18 issues under Jack Kirby.
