Are you a fan of The Man Without Fear? Well, here's One Dozen Daredevil Facts!
1. Daredevil's first costume was yellow and dark red with a single "D" on his chest. The costume was changed as soon as the seventh issue and was redesigned by artist Wally Wood. In 2001, writer Jeph Loeb wrote "Daredevil: Yellow" a story where Matt Murdock wore the original yellow costume throughout the story until the ending. At the end of the story, Daredevil learns his love interest Karen Page's favorite color is red, prompting him to redesign his suit.
2. The lesser known Marvel superhero Demolition Man wears a costume almost exactly like Daredevil's yellow costume. Wolverine's traditional costume was also an influence for D-Man.
3. When Matt Murdock was a child, a crashed tanker full of radioactive liquids spilled over his eyes. This led to his blindness as well as the enhancement of his other senses. Taking Daredevil as inspiration, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird borrowed parts of Daredevil's origin when creating The Teenaged Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles were being carried in a fish tank by a child. A crashing truck caused the turtles to fall into the sewer and for the chemicals in the truck to pour on top of them, mutating them.
4. Before being portrayed by Charlie Cox in Netflix's "Daredevil" series, Daredevil got a feature-length film and was played by Ben Affleck in 2003. Affleck, more than a decade later, would play Batman in "Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice". Jennifer Gardner played Elektra in that film and received a spin-off film of her own in 2005.
5. In 1989, Rex Smith played Matt Murdock in the made-for-TV movie "The Trial of The Incredible Hulk" which tied into the NBC TV series. In this TV special, Matt defended Bruce Banner in court and donned the Daredevil costume to help The Hulk fight The Kingpin. His costume in this special is a black ninja-like piece. Daredevil wore a similar costume in 1993's "Daredevil: The Man Without Fear" miniseries written by Frank Miller and yet again throughout the first season of Netflix's "Daredevil".
6. In 1975, David Bowie's ex-wife Angela Bowie wanted to make a TV series featuring Daredevil and Black Widow. Ben Currathers was going to portray Daredevil while Angela would have played Black Widow, but the series never got off the ground.
7. In the story Daredevil's love interest Elektra first appeared, she was hired by The Kingpin to kill Daredevil's best friend and law partner Foggy Nelson. Elektra abandons this job after Foggy recognizes her as Matt's girl. Elektra is later murdered by the villain Bullseye, being one of many love interests in Matt Murdock's life to die at Bulleye's hands.
8. Foggy Nelson is Matt Murdock's best friend and partner in law. Being part of "Nelson & Murdock" for many years, the two have been teased of being "basically a married couple" because of all the decisions they've made together. Foggy was once infatuated with Karen Page, but later married an old-schoolmate Deborah Harris. Debby has an affair which leads to their divorce. His second relationship was with Liz Allen, a former love interest of Peter Parker. Their relationship ended when Foggy was tricked by a demon into having an affair and killing the woman he slept with.
9. Bulleye's secret identity is still unknown. Only his first name "Lester" is connected to his past. Along with murdering plenty of Daredevil's love interests, Bulleye has also taken up the mantle of Hawkeye when he worked for Norman Osborn's Dark Avengers.
10. Daredevil has been cured of his blindness twice. Once by The Beyonder, and again by Iron Man by using an experimental form of Extremis.
11. Daredevil's sense of touch is powerful enough to read by feeling the ink on a page. His sense of smell track people multiple stories down from the top of a tall building. His sense of hearing can detect anyone's heart-rate, allowing him to detect if someone is lying or not. In short, Daredevil's senses are as powerful as characters like Wolverine and Sabretooth. His senses allow him to "see" better than any average human.
12. While the 2003 film displayed Daredevil's vision as mixture of an ocean and a night's sky, and while the Netflix series presented it as "a world on fire", the comics have continuously shown that Daredevil sees waves of red lines surrounding objects around him, showing their shapes and distances in the way bats use echolocation. While within water, Daredevil's senses are enhanced to a point where he has trouble maneuvering.
