Trading Places: Marvel Edition

Back in April I did a post about swapping the hero/villain battles of DC Comics characters. Sinestro fought Batman, Superman fought Reverse Flash. It was fun. So I wanted to take that concept back to where it originated from, Marvel Comics. Back in the day there was an event called "Acts of Vengeance" where a bunch of Marvel villains swapped adversaries. So let's try that here. This time around I tried to include some teams too, for variety!

Deadpool vs Red Skull
Gambit, Punisher, Old Man Logan, Hawkeye, it seems like just about everyone has had a "versus" with Deadpool. But rather than have The Merc with The Mouth fight our favorite heroes, why not set him up against one of the evilest dudes in history? The Red Skull has powers on par with Captain America, is also a master strategist, add to that an impressively devious list of achievements in the last year and you have a great opponent for Deadpool. I like the idea of Deadpool trying to earn back the favor of the superhero community by hunting down one of the worst villains on Earth. Especially when you factor in how much DP worships Captain America, you could actually have a driving motivation behind this story that isn't just a big dumb joke. Speaking of big dumb jokes, think of all the redhead jokes and Nazi jokes and dry skin jokes Deadpool could make. Maybe the two of them travel back in time to WWII and Deadpool gets to team up with Cap and Bucky? That'd be something fun and different!

Daredevil: Osborn Again
Matt Murdock seems to have a habit of fighting men in suits. For this scenario, Norman Osborn would return from the shadows as the new head of Fisk Industries, the charity corporation Wilson Fisk left behind since Fisk is the mayor of New York right now. Maybe Osborn uses a fake name or something, but the point is Osborn is in a position of power and is using Fisk's business to facilitate crime in New York to hopefully bring vigilantes out into daylight where Fisk can arrest them. Osborn doesn't like playing the pawn to Fisk, but without Fisk he can't get his hands on small amounts of The Goblin Formula. I like this matchup because Daredevil is a character always pushed to his limit, and Osborn often shifts between savvy businessman and insane super villain. Goblin also uses sense-altering gases-which could screw DD over badly-and having to keep a trace on where Green Goblin's glider is flying would be a real challenge for Daredevil. And their themes go together surprisingly well. The whole fight can happen on Halloween!

Spider-Man: Sinister Brotherhood
Magneto has to be evil for this, as if that's difficult. Spider-Man is often challenged by a group of his villains who form The Sinister Six, and those fights can be pretty difficult. Even after years of dealing with these guys it can be straining to keep up with them. So imagine if a new team of six villains gave Spider-Man trouble and how exceedingly difficult that would be. Magneto, Sabretooth, Mystique, Blob, Toad, and Pyro fit the mold of a standard Sinister Six surpassingly well when you think about it. An elemental, a strong guy, a master of disguise, a hunter. It works. You could easily fix up some kind of plot revolving around Spider-Man playing bodyguard to an extremely powerful mutant and trying keep The Brotherhood of Mutants from kidnapping them until The X-Men can arrive from a space mission. Until then, Spidey's going to have to play the most intense game of keep away of his life!

X-Men: Mutant Mischief
Do you know how many X-Men have come back from the dead? Most. Of the eight listed above, only three of them have never died. I mention this because Loki's daughter is Hela, master of He'l. And after Cyclops' recent resurrection I imagine she's getting sick of these mutants springing back up. So she demands her father kill The X-Men so that she may recover their souls, and in return Hela will owe her dad a favor of his choosing. Naturally, Loki uses tricks and manipulation to fight The X-Men, perhaps turning The X-Mansion into monster house! Summoning monsters from other realms, tricking The X-Men into fighting each other, and maybe he even uses magic to swap their powers! That's a story I've never seen from The X-Men! Nightcrawler looks human, but now has Angel's wings. Cyclops can remove his visor, but his skin is now metallic. Jean Grey can't read minds, but now she has Wolverine's claws! All the combinations! And all because Loki needs to turn this assassination mission into a damn carnival.

Avengers: Destination Doom
What's great is that Doctor Doom doesn't even have to be evil for this. He can still be Infamous Iron Man, but maybe he crosses a line other heroes wouldn't. Like, he keeps some evil senator prisoner in Latvaria and The Avengers want said senator to stand trial in America. Doom won't have it and The Avengers are forced to wage war on Latvaria to see to it this criminal is held accountable. It could be a cool story about American intervention in foreign nations and the kind of debates that must be had with actual monarchs. But more likely it would be a chance to see Doom's tech battle Stark's tech. And Doom's magic versus Strange's magic. And Doom's rulership against Black Panther's rulership. And just a chance to see characters like Captain Marvel and Ghost Rider deal with someone like Doctor Doom. It'd be a great way of harkening back to the days of Doom being a villain for the entire Marvel Universe and how even in the role of a hero Doom can still be a threat.

Fantastic Four: The Thanos Division
This seems very obvious. Thanos is a plague on Earth, in space, and in all realities. And when it comes to covering the entirety of all known existence, The Fantastic Four are the leading professionals. Maybe Thanos wants to absorb the The Power Cosmic from Galactus and The Silver Surfer-post defeat-has to warn the FF of Thanos' plans. The battle between Thanos and The Fantastic Four could be very entertaining. How does The Thing match up to Thanos? Can The Invisible Woman sneak by him? Can Mr. Fantastic outsmart him? Or will it be up to The Human Torch to annoy him to death? Seeing a cosmic force like Thanos plan for such a high-concept team like The Fantastic Four would bring a very different kind of conflict, we might actually see Thanos give this costumed heroes respect for their unity, their intelligence, and their willingness to be martyrs for their universe. I mean, if Galactus gets his butt kicked by The Fantastic Four, it's only a matter of time before Thanos leaving Reed Richard the victor.
Thanks for reading!
Which of these match-ups do YOU wanna see!?
