Six Sinister Sinners Starting Spider Scuffles

They say, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend", and no group of men believe in this idea more than The Sinister Six. These alliterated archenemies united over one simple goal: to squash Spider-Man. As a personal favor to the guys over at DistractionsMedia, today I'll be taking you readers through the history of The Sinister Six!

The 1960's, Stan Lee and Steve Ditko have created the next successful comic book character with The Amazing Spider-Man. When the first annual of "The Amazing Spider-Man" came out, these two men decided to up the ante. They wrote a story in which Doctor Octopus became tired of his continuous defeats at the hands of Spider-Man and sent an invite to recruit multiple enemies of the web-head into a kill squad. Only five of these criminals responded to the call: The Vulture, Electro, Mysterio, Sandman, and Kraven the Hunter. Spider-Man's first bout against the Sinister Six wasn't as bad as you'd think as The Six decided to take Spider-Man on one at a time. Some genius Doc Ock was, huh? When the Sinister Six returned in "The Amazing Spider-Man #334" Kraven was replaced by Hobgoblin and Sandman was blackmailed into the team, later on he actually turned on The Six and helped Spider-Man defeat the villains. The Sinister Six had their on-and-off appearances, once being formed by Hobgoblin as The Sinister Seven to kill Spider-Man's clone Kaine. Hobby's team consisted of The Beetle, Electro, Mysterio, Shocker, Scorpia, and The Vulture. Prior to this, Doc Ock's Sinister Six betrayed Sandman by turning him into glass, this later prompted Sandman to gather the 2nd Mysterio, the 2nd Kraven, The Vulture, Electro and Venom to seek revenge on Doc Ock. In "Marvel Knights Spider-Man" Norman Osborn was outed as The Green Goblin and taken into custody, but before being captured Osborn reached out to various Spider-Man villains. The third Venom-Mac Gargan-kidnapped May Parker and used her to force Spider-Man into breaking Osborn out of prison. Spider-Man and Black Cat got Osborn out of jail, but were ambushed by The Sinister Twelve! The Green Goblin, The Vulture, The Lizard, Chameleon, Electro, Sandman, Mysterio, Hydro-Man, Shocker, Hammerhead, Tombstone and Boomerang. So game over, right? Wrong! Spidey gets some back-up of his own with help from Captain America, Yellowjacket, Daredevil, Iron Man and The Fantastic Four! Shortly after this big battle, Spidey defeats The Green Goblin and saves both Mary Jane and Aunt May. When Doc Ock began slowly dying in the "Ends of The Earth" arc, he recruited Mysterio, Electro, The Rhino, Chameleon and Sandman to lure Spider-Man into his plan. After Doc Ock took control of Peter Parker's body and became The Superior Spider-Man, a group of lesser villains became The Sinister Six (Boomerang, The Beetle, The Living Brain, Overdrive, The Shocker, and Speed Demon). As part of his twisted ambitions to protect New York City, Spider-Ock brainwashed five of his former villains into working for him as The Superior Six (Superior Spider-Man, Electro, Chameleon, Mysterio, Sandman, and The Vulture). After allying himself with The Owl, the criminal Boomerang formed The Sinister Sixteen to take on The Chameleon (Boomerang, The Owl, Armadillo, The Beetle, Bi-Beast, Clown, Cyclone, Human Fly, Kangaroo, Man Mountain Marko, Mirage, Overdrive, Scorcher, Shriek, Speed Demon, Spot, and The Squid). Okay, that's overkill. While Spider-Man was teaching a class of X-Men, they ended up getting kidnapped by the villain Mojo and forced to fight The Sinister Sixty-Six which consisted of holograms of every villain Spider-Man has ever fought. The next Sinister Six was another group of lesser villains who tried robbing a bank, but were stopped by Spidey and his X-Men. This team included Swarm, The Squid, Killer Shrike, Delilah, 8-Ball, and The Melter. And finally, the most recent Sinister Six was called Sinister's Six as it consisted of Mister Sinister's feral clones of Beast, Storm, Wolverine, Iceman, Firestar and Nightcrawler. After fighting Spidey's X-Men, these clones deteriorated. Probably for the best. Clones are messy, as any Spider-Man fan knows.
The Sinister Six is deep rooted into Spider-Man's history, standing among threats like The Green Goblin and Venom. From six losers to sixty-six holograms, The Sinister Six will continue to haunt everyone's favorite wall-crawler for the rest of his publicized life. It's not known where The Six will reappear, but if I had my way I'd like to see Sandman, Morbius, The Lizard, The Wraith, Toxin and Rocket Racer form a new Superior Six, but hey, that's just an idea. I hope you enjoyed our little trip through The Sinister Six's history and at the very least appreciate these men's determination to kill one unlucky guy.
