A Star is Born

Everyone loves it when heroes fight their literal counterparts. Superman versus Zod, Spider-Man versus Venom, Wolverine versus Sabretooth, The Fantastic Four versus 20th Century Fox. But for all the literal dark mirrors, there are a few metaphorical mirrors that should get some respect. Like Scarecrow to Batman, or Lex Luthor to Superman. Or like today's Z-Lister, Evil Star.
The original Evil Star was a crime lord who battled The Justice Society of America in 1948, but the name was reused for a character created by Gardner Fox and Gil Kane in 1965's "Green Lantern Vol. 2 #37". He was once an unnamed scientist from the planet Auron who invents a device called The Starband. This device added to his lifespan by drawing power from the stars themselves. However, his newfound immortality twisted his mind. The side effects of the Starband also caused every other Auronian to rapidly age. In order to keep his fellow citizens from seizing the Starband, the scientist killed every living being on his planet and took the name Evil Star. Evil Star then leaves to find new planets to conquer. Drawing the attention of The Guardians of The Universe and their Green Lantern Corps.
When he comes to Earth, Evil Star clashes with Hal Jordan/The Green Lantern. During their battle Hal discovers the Starband allows the scientist to blast energy beams, fly, create light constructs, and, most surprisingly, create Starlings. Starlings are short, mindless minions that possess superhuman strength, speed, and endurance. They are also under Evil Star's control. Kind of like when Perfect Cell created the Cell Juniors. Yeah. Betcha didn't know I was a DBZ Fan too.
After Evil Star's defeat, The Guardians of The Universe put him in an alien rehab facility where his brain is nullified in an attempt to cure him of the Starband's influence. However, this rehab only enhances his subconscious. He unknowingly creates Starlings from The Starband-which had been locked up on the GLC's planet Oa-and The Starlings bring the Starband back to him. Still mentally damaged by the rehab experiments, Evil Star thinks the Starlings are going to hurt him so he flies to Earth. It is there that a member of The Darkstars-another interstellar police force-uses his powers to remind Evil Star of all the lives he's taken. Evil Star submits and is arrested by The Guardians of The Universe.
I mentioned how Evil Star is a metaphorical dark mirror to The Green Lantern, and in a way I think he is just as good a parallel than any other Lantern Corps. Follow me on this: The Green Lantern uses the power given to him to fight evil, Evil Star uses power of his own creation to commit atrocities. The Green Lantern is one of an army, Evil Star can create an army. The Green Lantern overcomes his fear to continue the battle, Evil Star's mind is corrupted by power. Despite not being a Red, or a Yellow, or a Black Lantern, Evil Star syncs up extremely well to The Green Lantern and is really a villain I'd like to see return. I'd even say he'd make a good movie villain. The Green Lantern has many villains who aren't Lanterns, but most of them seem average enough that anyone can fight them. But Evil Star fits The Green Lantern atheistic to well, and his abilities are so unique that it's a crime we haven't seen this guy more. Maybe the future holds good things for the star who does bad things!
