Valk Facts

Are you a fan of Asgard's favorite Valkyrie? Well, we got One Dozen Valkyrie Facts for you!
1. Much like her male counterpart Thor, Brunnhilde The Valkyrie used to occupy the body of a human due to her soul being manipulated by The Enchantress. A further comparison to Thor is the fact that modern Valkyrie does not use the body of a mortal and has been using her original Asgardian body since 2010. She has, however, been forced to share a body with a human woman.

2. Valkyrie is bisexual. Originally she had a male lover, but she has more often dated women.

3. In her first appearance in "Avengers #83" in 1970, Valkyrie came to The Avengers and brainwashed their female members-Medusa, Black Widow, and The Wasp-into striking out against their male allies and forming a team called The Lady Liberators. It was revealed by the end of the issue that Valkyrie had actually been Enchantress in disguise. Valkyrie would later become a member of The Defenders, and far later a member of The Secret Avengers.

4. Valkyrie was once set as a mentor for the character Moondragon by Odin. Moondragon was a telepathic bisexual who was raised amongst monks. She was also an occasional villain, which is why Odin asked Valkyrie to show her the righteous path. Despite their sexual orientations, neither women seemed attracted to each other. Though this could be the era in which their adventures were written. Moondragon's father was also Arthur Douglas, who had been murdered by Thanos and revived as Drax The Destroyer by Thanos' father.

5. Valkyrie's signature weapon is her enchanted sword: Dragonfang. She also rides a pegasus named Aragorn. The original Aragorn was created through genetic experimentation by a villain known as Black Knight. When Black Knight died he passed his weapons and scientific discovers over to his nephew Dane Whitman and told him to use them for good, unlike he had. Whitman created a new Aragorn and-when Whitman was turned to stone-left the horse to Valkyrie. Even after returning to life, Whitman allowed Valkyrie and Aragorn to remain partners. Valkyrie also borrowed Black Knight's Ebony Blade for a time when Doctor Strange owned Dragonfang.

6. After the end of "Fear Itself", Valkyrie is tasked with creating a new Valkyior. This time with women from Earth. Valkyrie gathers Hippolyta The Amazon, street-vigilante Misty Knight, and the former X-Man Daniel Moonstar and forms The Fearless Defenders. Together they battled the zombified Valkyrie from Brunnhilde's old team.

7. Brunnhilde has the ability to perceive death before it happens. She is able to see it as a "deathglow" aura around someone's body.

8. In Marvel's Ultimate Universe, Valkyrie is a nineteen year old girl named Barbara Norris who calls herself "Thor-Girl". She has no powers, but is an Orange Belt martial artist. She had been a member of wannabe heroes called The Defenders, the rest of whom had no powers. She reappears as a member of The Ultimates later on and is known as Valkyrie. She now has powers akin to Thor, a magic sword, and a black pegasus. The origin of these powers remains a mystery. She and Thor have a sexual relationship and she is depicted as a valley girl. She also cut Venom in half, nearly killing him. She forced to confront her fear of becoming powerless again through the abilities of the villain Mastermind, and is almost sexually assaulted by Mastermind and his partner Pyro, but she snaps out if it and kills both men. During "Ultimatum" she is killed, revived after Thor gives his soul to Hela, and is almost killed again by Magneto. Later she wields Thor's hammer, but is killed by Loki. Valkyrie makes her final appearance in The Ultimate Universe when she returns to life to capture Loki and bring him to He'l, revealing to Thor she is now Hela's Valkyrie.

9. Evidently, there exists a "Thor-Girl" in the main Marvel Universe named Tarene. She was a cosmic goddess created by an alien sorcerer. After her homeworld was destroyed by Thanos, she became Thor's sidekick Thor-Girl. Her current location is unknown.

10. Valkyrie's creation in 1970, as well as the creation of Lady Sif six years prior, led the way for many Asgardian warrior women characters. There was the aforementioned Thor-Girl. There was also Jane Foster when she became Thor in 2014. And finally there was Angela, a character integrated into Marvel in 2013 who was a revealed to be Thor's older sister. Angela was previously a character from Image Comic's "Spawn" series, who's creator won her publishing rights in a court case from her co-creator Todd McFarlene.

11. Valkyrie has used the bodies of four women. She used the body of Barbara Norris who had been trapped in another dimension. Then Sian Bowen, then Samatha Parrington, and finally Annabelle Riggs who had been Valkyrie's girlfriend beforehand.

12. In 2017, a version of Valkyrie appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film "Thor: Ragnarok". Played by Tessa Thompson, Valkyrie is an unnamed former Valkyrie who's allies were murdered by Hela. She became a "scrapper" for The Grandmaster, but by the end of the film helped Thor, Loki, and Hulk save the people of Asgard. She depicted as an alcoholic, violent, pessimistic warrior woman who masks her pain with liquor and a bad attitude. Following the film, a new version of Valkyrie appeared in 2018's "Exiles" series which is a book starring Marvel comic's characters from different realities. This version of Valkyrie is not the MCU version, but heavily inspired by her. Down to the skin tone and attitude, she is physically bulkier though.
