1. Before he created Miles, writer Brian Michael Bendis wrote "Ultimate Spider-Man" for eleven years. Bendis spearheaded the Ultimate Universe as a means of new readers to pick up comics from a fresh start and a way to modernize classic Marvel superheroes. Ultimate Spider-Man was the first series. Similarly, Spider-Man was the first character used as inspiration behind the Noir Universe and the 2099 Universe.

2. Marvel Editor Alex Alonso had discussed creating a Black Spider-Man around the time of Barock Obama's election. Obama grew up reading and collecting Spider-Man comics, and during his time in office there was a special issue of Peter Parker/Spider-Man where the web-head teamed up with the newly elected president.

3. Miles has a few powers that Peter never had. The first is the ability to camouflage himself, body and clothing. The second is a "Venom Strike" where with a touch and a flex Miles can paralyze anyone he battles.

4. Originally Miles used a Halloween store replica of the Spider-Man suit. However after he was captured and questioned by SHIELD, Director Nick Fury gave him his black costume.

5. Miles' current love interest is Spider-Woman/Gwen Stacy, a version of Gwen from a world where she was bitten by the radioactive spider. The two met during "Spider-Verse" where Miles also met a version of Peter from the "Ultimate Spider-Man" cartoon and the version of Peter from the 1970's cartoon.

6. Miles was a member of the last roster of Ultimates in the Ultimate universe, he is a member of the reality-jumping Web Warriors, he was an Avenger for a very short time, and is currently a member of The Champions.

7. During "Secret Invasion" it was predicted by a future-seeing Inhuman that Miles would kill Captain America one day on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. This was predicted during the time Steve Rogers was an agent of HYDRA, so it unknown how concrete it is.

8. Miles' appearance was inspired by comedian Donald Glover who wore Spider-Man pajamas in an episode of "Community". Glover has voiced Miles in animated form, he also played Miles' uncle in "Spider-Man: Homecoming". Miles' uncle, in the comics, was a villain named The Prowler who stole the spider that bit Miles. The Prowler from the main Marvel Universe was Hobie Brown, a fellow student of Peter Parker who used a supervillain identity to steal stuff and then return it for prize money. Hobie is currently a "replacement" Spider-Man for when Peter needs someone to cover for him.

9. Miles' father is African-American and his mother is Puerto Rican. His mother was killed during a fight against Venom, she learned of his secret identity during her death. Despite her request for Miles to keep it secret from his father, Miles' dad would find out later and tell his son he doesn't blame him for his mother's death. After "Secret Wars", Miles' father and mother would return to life and live with Miles in the main Marvel Universe. Currently, both parents are aware of Miles' double life.

10. In the Ultimate Universe Miles was dating Kate Bishop, who-in the main Marvel Universe-is the successor to the Hawkeye identity and a member of the Young Avengers.

11. Miles' best friend is Ganke, a character created with Miles. After "Secret Wars" Ganke was also sent to the main Marvel Universe. The reason Miles and his supporting cast were sparred the destruction of the Ultimate Universe was because he gave food to The Molecule Man, who Doctor Doom was manipulating and starving. In "Spider-Man: Homecoming" the character Ned Leeds is very similar to Ganke, as is his relationship with Peter Parker.

12. While the version of Miles we follow now is from the Ultimate Universe, there exists a version of Miles from the main Marvel Universe who is an adult criminal who helped The Kingpin/Wilson Fisk return to his place in New York.
